Senior Pet Care

Often in the past, practitioners have treated senior pets with a degree of acceptance that the pet had, perhaps, reached the limit of what veterinary medicine could do to help them. At Corinth Animal Hospital, senior care is a concept that introduces a broader scope of care that includes prevention as well as therapeutics. With today’s expanding knowledge of geriatric diseases, healthier nutrition, dedicated pet owners and advances in therapy, our pets can live longer, richer lives. We at Corinth Animal Hospital know you love your pet and we gain a great deal of satisfaction in helping your senior four-legged family member, and we celebrate and support that special bond between you and your pet.

The mainstay of caring for your senior pet is prevention and early detection. Believe it or not, senior care begins with your initial puppy visit. We establish changing nutritional requirements as your pet matures. We also use preanesthetic testing associated with neutering/spaying to establish baseline blood values to use as comparison later in life, and detecting genetic birth defects before they present as a health problem. Routine dental scaling and cleaning as your pet ages is very important to prevent bacterial infections and damage of other organ systems that can cause premature organ failure.
